Ms. Kiku, who creates pottery in Tokyo.
After enrolling in the Department of Spatial Design, Musashino Art University Junior College of Art and Design, pottery was one of the things she started with the mindset of "try anything I'm interested in while I'm a student."
After graduating from university, she worked as a flower coordinator, decorating venues such as wedding halls, and adding color to many spaces.
Later, after her childcare responsibilities settled down, she started attending pottery classes again.
As she spent more time working with clay, her passion for pottery deepened, and she began to exhibit at various events.
In terms of "adding color to spaces," her previous job as a flower coordinator and her current work as a ceramic artist seem connected.
In her creative process, she pursues expression by researching the characteristics of clay and glazes in order to give form to the ideas that continuously spring to mind.
The animal lidded container series was born from a friend's comment, "Try making a Java sparrow!"
Every piece has an adorable expression and is full of charm that can't help but make you smile.
"I want to create works that naturally bring a smile to people's faces and soothe their hearts."
Her works, imbued with such sentiments, bring gentle color and warmth into our daily lives.
