A cup that lets you enjoy the play of light and shadow

This mug by Ichi features a soft, rounded form and a distinct, intricate shinogi pattern. The three-dimensional quality of the shinogi makes this a delightful piece.

While it has an elegant appearance, a closer look reveals a rustic charm with visible clay particles. This depth of character, which goes beyond mere beauty or cuteness, is another one of its appeals.

It holds 300ml when full, and about 260ml when 80% full.
It's perfect for coffee and tea, or even for displaying small flowers by the window.

The three-dimensional shinogi, or ridged texture, catches the light to create shadows, leaving a beautiful lingering impression in the space.

ichi's mugs bring peace and comfort to your daily breaks and those moments when your eyes meet.

Each time you hold one, you can truly feel the beauty of the shinogi grooves and the warmth of the clay.

Ikami Ichiko

Ichiko Igami is a ceramic artist who, along with her husband, creates under the name "ichi" in Gifu Prefecture.

Influenced by her father, who was a woodworker, she grew up experiencing the joy of creation firsthand from a young age. A major turning point that led her to ceramics was the presence of her cousin, who was attending art university. When she touched the clay on the potter's wheel during an open campus event, she strongly felt, "This is it," and decided to pursue a career in ceramics.

Her mother influenced her current style of painted pottery. Growing up with a mother who loved painted tableware, she naturally became familiar with such pieces from a young age.
Initially, when studying ceramics, she deliberately avoided painting because she loved it so much.
However, as she re-evaluated her own creative process, it dawned on her, "Precisely because I love it, I can fully commit to it," leading her to her current artistic style.

The floral motifs depicted on her pottery are inspired by nature close at hand, such as flowers blooming by the roadside, tree branches, and berries. She says she fills her mind with images of plants by sketching and observing them, then constructs the patterns.

Regarding her creative process, she shared, "I am mindful of creating sizes and shapes that are suitable for various uses, making them easy to use in everyday life. I would be delighted if I could create pieces that make those who use them smile a little, feel at ease, or find encouragement."

Her hope is that "the pottery will naturally blend into the everyday scenery, in a way that is comfortable for each individual user."
Such thoughts are encapsulated in her work.
