Annan-style rice bowls combine nostalgia and modernity

This rice bowl is eye-catching with its deep blue and tasteful vintage brown rim.

The delicate petals painted all over the dish add just the right amount of softness and cuteness, bringing a gentle elegance to the cool colors.

This piece was made using the Annam technique, which originated in Vietnam, and the flowing glaze gives it a playful look.

The clean shape, which does not widen from the bottom to the mouth, makes it easy to use not only as a rice bowl, but also as a soup bowl or bowl.
This piece will make your everyday dining experience more enjoyable and fulfilling.

Miyuki Matoba

Matoba Miyuki

Matoba is originally from Okayama Prefecture and currently makes pottery in Kyoto.

He loved drawing from a young age and majored in oil painting at university.

He first encountered pottery in his university days when he was a member of the pottery club. The more he made, the more he became fascinated by the depth of the art, and he went on to study further at Kyoto Prefectural Pottery Technical College.

His current style is characterized by the soft, flowing glaze.
Matoba says, "I love the scenery that the glaze itself creates," and he was attracted to the Annan-te technique and incorporated it into his work.

The designs are said to be inspired by old vessels from various parts of Asia.
Using the Annan-te technique, which evokes a nostalgic, antique feel, Matoba's work is elegant yet somehow endearing and cute, a charm that is unique to her.

These pieces convey the idea that "we want to create tableware that is fun to look at and use," and they gently add color to your life.
