Rag-weave coasters with delightful, varied patterns
These torn-fabric coasters by Atelier MOON are carefully woven from thin strips of fabric.
The warp is linen and the weft is cotton, creating an attractive depth and shading from the different materials.
The neat form and the overlapping colors of the warp and weft demonstrate the beauty and good taste of Atelier MOON's handiwork.
The cotton fabric used for the weft was torn and prepared from scratch by Atelier MOON.
The unique undulation of the torn cotton fabric gives it a cute yet profoundly tasteful atmosphere.
It looks soft, and it feels soft to the touch.
The linen used for the warp adds a subtle sheen, giving it a casual elegance amidst its cuteness.
This time, three colors have been prepared to suit winter living.

Atelier MOON
Horiuchi Mutsumi
Ms. Horiuchi of Atelier MOON, who creates works in Hokkaido.
The origin of her rag weave coaster making dates back 35 years, when she purchased a loom.
Initially, she taught herself weaving and enjoyed the process of creation itself.
Eventually, this passion grew, and she began exhibiting her works at handmade events.
Later, following a request from a general store, she started making rag weave coasters about 12 years ago.
She tears a single piece of fabric into strips, and then weaves each strip one by one as the weft.
These coasters are created by meticulously repeating this painstaking process.
Within their soft appearance, one can feel the clear traces of careful craftsmanship, and with each use, the creator's sincerity and warmth are conveyed through these works.
