Annan-style soba cup with a delightful flowing glaze

This piece features a lovely floral design and a deep blue glaze that immediately catches the eye.

Combined with the vintage brown rim around the mouth, it gives off a mature vibe that is not too sweet.

It was made using a technique called Annan-te, which originated in Vietnam.

Lines are engraved on the surface of the vessel, then painted with a deep blue pigment called gosu, and then covered with an easily soluble glaze, which causes the lines to gradually blur and gives the vessel a rich, tasteful appearance.

The entire dish is softly coated with a thin, off-white glaze, which changes its appearance softly depending on the light, which is wonderful.

Perfect for those who prefer "tsukemen" (dipping noodles) to celebrate New Year's Eve.
It can also be used as a free cup for tea, yogurt, or as a small bowl.

Because it is made of semi-porcelain, it is less prone to staining than ceramic, and its lightness is also one of its charms.
This soba cup will provide comfort in a variety of situations.

      Matoba Miyuki

Matoba is originally from Okayama Prefecture and currently makes pottery in Kyoto.

He loved drawing from a young age and majored in oil painting at university.

He first encountered pottery in his university days when he was a member of the pottery club. The more he made, the more he became fascinated by the depth of the art, and he went on to study further at Kyoto Prefectural Pottery Technical College.

His current style is characterized by the soft, flowing glaze.
Matoba says, "I love the scenery that the glaze itself creates," and he was attracted to the Annan-te technique and incorporated it into his work.

The designs are said to be inspired by old vessels from various parts of Asia.
Using the Annan-te technique, which evokes a nostalgic, antique feel, Matoba's work is elegant yet somehow endearing and cute, a charm that is unique to her.

These pieces convey the idea that "we want to create tableware that is fun to look at and use," and they gently add color to your life.
