【Before Using Your Pottery】
As this plate are pottery, they are naturally absorbent.
We recommend "seasoning" (sealing) the pottery before use to help prevent stains, mold, and the absorption of odors.
With glazed pieces, the color of food may sometimes seep into the fine crackle patterns (*kannyu*) in the glaze; we hope you will appreciate this as part of the item's unique character.
Please avoid using the microwave or dishwasher whenever possible.
【Care Instructions】
For routine care, wash with a sponge and dish soap, then rinse thoroughly.
It is important to let the piece dry completely after washing.
*Please avoid soaking the pottery for extended periods.
Because the clay is highly absorbent, the unglazed body can soak up dirty water, potentially leading to mold or stains.

Mai Tagawa is a ceramic artist working in Kanagawa Prefecture.
She has loved drawing since childhood, and art was her favorite subject. Seeing the Shigaraki (Shiga prefecture) ware mugs and saucers her parents used, she was drawn to the beautiful scarlet gradients that appeared in the ceramics, and she began to think, "Someday I want to create works like these myself." With that aspiration in mind, she studied pottery at Tama Art University.
After graduating, she became independent and initially focused on creating works that utilized the scarlet hues produced by the reactions of glazes and clay. In recent years, she has also actively engaged in carbonization firing, exploring the potential of the rich colors shown by the clay itself.
"I started making works using carbonization firing because I wanted to see the range of gradients in the clay. The finished colors are completely unpredictable, so opening the kiln is always an exciting moment."
These words from Ms. Tagawa reveal her pursuit of the accidental beauty created by nature in her works.
Her respected artists are Lucie Rie, known for her delicate and refined forms, and Shunsai Takahashi, the creator of the Shigaraki ware mugs her parents used. Her admiration for Lucie Rie's elegant forms and Shunsai Takahashi's powerful yet warm style is also reflected in Ms. Tagawa's delicate forms and the beautiful scarlet gradients woven by nature in her works.
Delicate forms and unique colors created in the kiln. The harmony of these two elements in Ms. Tagawa's bowls and vases deepens in character with use, adding a quiet touch of color to daily life.
